PGL and Valve to Attend a Meeting With Sports Minister of Sweden Today

PGL’s CEO Silviu Stroie had earlier stated that despite several attempts, there had been no new development in the situation regarding the CS:GO Major. As PGL was running out of time, the organizers announced that they would soon start looking for a new location.

Following this stalemate, the Mayor of Stockholm – Anna König Jerlmyr came forward and wrote a letter to both, Minister of the Interior – Mikael Damberg and Minister of Sports – Amanda Lind, in support of hosting the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 in Sweden.

However, this time things seemed to have worked out as Lind agreed to a meeting with both PGL and Valve which will be taking place today. This might just be the saving grave for the CS:GO Major to be held in Sweden.

A few things pointed out were that PGL has been reportedly permitted the same level of guarantees by the Swedish government as the Swedish Olympic application until 2026. But, due to the global health situation, the Swedish government has refused to provide guarantees for all events, this includes both the Olympic Games and the CS:GO Major.

The only request that PGL currently has is the guarantee that all players participating in the Major get a VISA to compete in Sweden. Otherwise, the tournament will be moved to another country.
