How to Boost FPS in Dota 2 Using AMD FSR
AMD recently introduced FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), a software technology that allows you to increase FPS in place of a small or negligible reduction in image and texture quality.
Here is how you can enable AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) and how much FPS you can increase in Dota 2 with it.
Having high frames per second (FPS) is the desire of all Dota 2 players. Since Dota 2 involves so many heroes, spells, items, and tower engagements, a high frame rate helps with smooth gameplay and allows for easy implementation of a lot of in-game movements and spellcasting. AMD recently introduced FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), a software technology that allows you to increase FPS in place of a small or negligible reduction in image and texture quality. This is specifically beneficial for those who have lower-end systems and cannot afford to buy a new gaming graphic card or upgrade their system. Here is how much FPS you can increase in Dota 2 with AMD FSR.
How to Use AMD FSR in Dota 2
Here is how you can enable AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution in Dota 2.
Open Dota 2
Click on the Settings icon on the top left corner.
Click on Video.
The FidelityFX Super Resolution is located under the ‘Rendering’ section. Enable it by clicking on it.

Dota 2 FSR option
Should You Use AMD FSR in Dota 2?
AMD FSR’s impact on Dota 2 was quite minimal in our experience. We were not able to notice any significant FPS boosts on resolutions like 1080p and 1440p. The image quality gets compromised too much in most scenarios in exchange for the minimal increase of 10-30 frames per second, which makes it not worthwhile. Despite the image quality is less compromised when the FSR is reduced to around 50%, FPS still doesn’t significantly increase.
Therefore, we recommend not using AMD FSR for Dota 2. Just lowering your general Dota 2 performance settings would yield better performances outperforming FSR in Dota 2.
In 1080p and 1440p, this results in a lesser image quality sacrifice and a better performance boost. On the other hand, AMD FSR could potentially be useful if you are playing the game at 4K, and cannot get the maximum FPS that your monitor supports. Enabling AMD may lead to a noticeable increase in the number of FPS in some situations based on your 4k setup.
Popular tech YouTube channel, Hardware Unboxed, presented an indepth analysis of AMD FSR’s performance in Dota 2.
What is the AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)?
FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a technology developed by AMD which is primarily aimed at increasing FPS without any significant quality compromises. To put it simply, it is an image upscaling feature that renders images at a higher resolution than they actually are, leading to better performance.
AMD FSR currently works on both Nvidia and AMD graphics hardware. It currently works on the following graphics card / integrated graphics processor families.
AMD Radeon™ 6000 Series
AMD Radeon™ 6000M Series
AMD Radeon™ 5000 Series
AMD Radeon™ 5000M Series
AMD Radeon™ VII Graphics
AMD Radeon™ RX Vega Series
AMD Radeon™ 600 Series
AMD Radeon™ RX 500 Series
AMD Radeon™ RX 480/470/460 Graphics
AMD Ryzen™ Desktop Processors with AMD Radeon™ Graphics
AMD Ryzen™ Mobile Processors with Radeon™ Graphics
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 30 Series
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 20 Series
