IG Oli to Miss WePlay AniMajor After Contracting COVID-19
Invictus Gaming (IG)’s position five player, Chan “Oli” Chon Kien will be missing the WePlay AniMajor after being tested positive for COVID-19. WePlay Esports communicated this via its Twitter handle, stating that Oli had found himself be infected with the virus before traveling to Ukraine and now has to compulsorily quarantine for 14 days. With Oli absent from IG’s roster at the Major, the team’s coach, Su “super” Peng, will be playing as the stand-in. Oli’s absence would not concern IG as the Chinese team has already secured a direct invite to TI10, courtesy of flawless performances in the first DPC season and the first Major.
IG’s support player, Oli, will miss the WePlay AniMajor
Though WePlay did not specify exactly when Oli was diagnosed with COVID-19, it mentioned that the 14-day quarantine would be enough to prevent him from traveling to Kyiv.
IG may not have any forced role swaps as a result of Oli’s absence as coach super has traditionally been a support player. The team’s roster for the WePlay AniMajor:
- Jin “flyfly” Zhiyi
- Zhou “Emo” Yi is
- Thiay “JT-” Jun Wen
- Hu “kaka” Liangzhi
- Su “super” Peng (stand-in)
Note: The Super, who was recently added to Elephant’s Dota 2 roster, is a different player.
IG had placed first in the China 2021 DPC Season 1: Upper Division (500 DPC points) and had then emerged as the champions of the Singapore Major (500 DPC points). The Chinese team finished fourth in the recently concluded China 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division (100 DPC points). These three finishes secured them a TI10 slot.
With nothing significant to gain, the Singapore Major champions will look to practice some new strategies and get some more playing time against international teams at the AniMajor considering the recent death of global LAN events.
IG will play in the wild card of the AniMajor on June 2-3, 2021. The other teams in the wild card are Vici Gaming, Team Nigma, Team Secret, AS Monaco Gambit, and Execration.
