T1 Touches Down at Kyiv for the WePlay AniMajor
T1’s full roster has landed at Kyiv in Ukraine for the second Dota 2 Major of the season, the WePlay AniMajor. All the roster members, as well as the support staff of T1, have arrived safely at Kyiv, according to the WePlay Esports Twitter handle. This will be a major relief for T1 and its supporters since the team had missed out on their captain, Carlo “Kuku” Palad, at the Singapore Major due to health-related reasons. This was followed by a disastrous result in the wild card as T1 bowed out of the Major in 15th-18th place. Kuku and his teammates will now be entering the WePlay AniMajor with strong momentum carried over from their success in the SEA DPC 2021 regional league.

T1 can be seen waving at their fans after touching down at Kyiv.
The WePlay AniMajor will be beginning on June 2, 2021, but T1 will begin its tournament run from June 9 when the playoffs kickstart. Kuku and his teammates had topped the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division and hence had secured a direct entry into the playoffs while also yielding 500 important DPC points.
This time, T1 fans can expect the team to have a stronger showing compared to the disaster in Singapore. Kuku has been the catalyst behind T1’s qualification for the two Majors as his drafting and in-game shot-calling extensively assist the team. The team has a young bunch of professionals who do not possess enough competitive experience and that is where the Filipino comes in handy.
Image by Adela Sznajder Via DreamHackThough Forev, a veteran of the SEA Dota 2 scene, had replaced Kuku at the Singapore Major, T1 had fallen flat which is another testimony to the Filipino’s significance in the team. Moreover, Kuku has played with Karl, Xepher, and Whitemon since the Geek Fam days. Kuku had himself claimed in one of the recent interviews, though jokingly, that the team faltered at the Singapore Major because of the absence of “Master Kuku.”
23savage has also seemingly adjusted well with the team over the last two months. His consistency increased by leaps and bounds in the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Upper Division as T1, as a whole, looked like the best SEA team by the end of the league.
The fact that T1 is beginning the WePlay AniMajor in the playoffs will also be a big plus for the team, boosting their chances of securing a direct invite to TI10. They have 670 points in the bag and the current threshold for earning a direct invite is 801 points. So, T1 needs just one series win to surpass the 801 points threshold. If T1 manages to accomplish it, they will be the first SEA team to qualify for TI10.
Alliance, Team Aster, NoPing e-sports, Virtus.pro, and Quincy Crew are the other five teams who will begin in the upper bracket playoffs with T1. The matchup schedule is yet to be released so the fans of Kuku and Co. will have to wait a bit before their first opponent is publicly revealed.
