Team SMG has taken the second chance in the SEA DPC S2 Open Qualifiers #2 with open hands after Team D, who had initially eliminated MidOne’s Team SMG, were disqualified from the qualifiers. Team SMG won the second round of the open qualifiers by defeating Patriots 2-0 in the grand finals to secure a spot in the SEA 2021 DPC Season 2: Lower Division. They were allowed to compete today because Team D’s member, Remus “Ponlo” Goh Zhi Xian, had communicated on April 9, 2021, that his team had been disqualified after their mid laner, Cheng “vtFαded” Jia Hao, left his former team, Team Mystery, two days after the roster had been locked. MidOne and kpii’s Team SMG will now be seen in action from April 13, 2021, when the DPC season begins.

Team SMG win SEA DPC open qualifiers #2 after Team D’s disqualification

Team SMG had been eliminated by Team D in the quarterfinals of the SEA DPC S2 Open Qualifiers #2. Since Ponlo and his teammates were disqualified, Team SMG moved ahead in the tournament. They defeated Shinigami 2-0 in the semifinals and then registered a 2-0 win over Patriots in the BO3 grand finals.

Team SMG’s roster for the 2021 DPC Season 2:

  1. Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng
  2. Muhammad “Neah666” Ammar Rasulli
  3. Damien “kpii” Chok
  4. Tue “ah fu” Soon Chuan
  5. Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung

Team D’s support Ponlo had shared an email that he had sent to Valve to clarify this situation regarding their disqualification.

Team D had been using Malaysian player, Cheng vtFαded, as their carry player for the open qualifiers #2. However, VtFαded was also listed as a player of another team, Team Mystery, that already plays in the second division. Since Team D still competed with the Malaysian in the qualifiers and VtFαded left Team Mystery two days after the roster had been locked, they were handed a disqualification by Valve.

Ponlo has also communicated that besides the team getting disqualified from the open qualifiers, Valve has also banned vtFαded “from playing in the DPC until after TI10.”
