Singapore Major: Thunder Predator Go Undefeated While Alliance and Neon Struggle

Day 1 of the Group Stages of the ONE Esports Singapore Major came to an end with Thunder Predator reigning supreme while Neon Esports and Alliance suffered multiple losses pushing them to the bottom of the Group Stage table. Thunder Predator now occupies the top spot in the points table with a 4-0-0 W-L-D series record while Neon Esports and Alliance registered just one match win in their four and three series respectively. Thunder Predator’s dominating opening at the Singapore Major

The second seed from the SA 2021 DPC Season 1: Upper Division, Thunder Predator, were the underdogs coming into a stacked Singapore Major group stage. After beastcoast opted out of the tournament just a few days before its onset, Thunder Predator was also the only SA representative.

However, Thunder Predator stuck hard at one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world. They looked comfortable and delivered comprehensive performances in each of the four series that they played. Thunder defeated Team Liquid 2-0, Alliance 2-0, Team Aster 2-0, and Quincy Crew 2-0 as they did not incur a single map loss.

Thunder Predator is also through to the playoffs as they will not finish in eighth place even if they lose all three of their remaining series. However, they will look to secure an upper bracket playoffs spot by finishing in the top three.

Neon Esports and Alliance’s miserable Singapore Major group stage start

Neon Esports and Alliance were the most lackluster teams on day one of the Singapore Major group stages. Both the teams were outplayed by the other teams as they could not win a single series. Both of them drew one series as Neon ended 1-1 against Team Aster while Alliance tied the series 1-1 against Vici Gaming.

Alliance has played one less series so they have a higher chance of outranking Neon and finishing in the top seven which will grant them a slot in the playoffs. Neon can also still finish in the top seven and secure themselves a playoffs spot. A lot will be on the line for these two teams when they face each other on March 30, 2021.

PSG.LGD, Quincy Crew, Team Aster, Team Liquid and Vici Gaming’s close competition

PSG.LGD, Quincy Crew, Team Aster, Team Liquid and Vici Gaming are all tied up at the second spot in the points table of the Singapore Major group stage. While PSG.LGD has played one less series and so, have an opportunity to surpass these teams tomorrow, the other four teams have the same number of wins, losses and draws at a 1-1-2 W-L-D series record.

The middle group competition is really close as all these teams have an almost equal chance of finishing in the upper brackets. Dota 2 statistician, Ben “Noxville” Steenhuisen, highlighted the chances of the teams’ finishing in the various possible outcomes.
